ð My First Astro Workshop for High School Researchers
Astro Gateway was a free two-day astronomy research workshop for upper-secondary students, held on October 10â11, 2026, in Room 501 of the Faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University. This was the first time that Atom and I had organized an astronomy workshop for high school students who want to work on astronomy science projects.
On the first day, we introduced DS9 and worked with astronomical imaging data. We also talked about the kinds of scientific questions that astronomical research can answer. The second day focused mostly on Python programming, as the students began exploring how it can be used to analyse data for their own projects. The workshop also covered catalogues and photometry, astronomical spectra, and how to put together a research proposal.
More than 50 high school students joined us. Seeing the room full of students discussing ideas, working with data, and helping one another made the workshop feel like a real success. It was definitely a great start, and I hope Astro Gateway can become the first of many workshops like this.
